I hope this doesn't come across as overly whiny, but it has been just about the ********* month of my life.
My dad died suddnely, totally unexpected, in his sleep on the 14th of last month, and I'm still crying about it. My grandmother (we were totally tight) died two weeks later. My sister's house in N.O. escaped total destruction, but she can't go back. My nephew flipped his Explorer - luckily he is OK. My partner's mother had heart surgery two days ago....
I need to get away for a couple of days, at not much expense, and away from hoarding crowds. Something fun, totally different and totally mind numbing. Can anyone give me ideas on a +/- 500.00 couple of days?
Just need to get away. :D

Hopefully Samsung doesn't sue for the name:rolleyes:
That would be funny if they did. Speaking of Suing for naming rights. You know what would be funny if Volkswagen AG Sued Apple for using the name A4,A5, being those are names of some Audi models. Since everyone is suing everyone else might as well give VW the idea to get in on the fun

If it's a reader, I can see this working in concert with the new Easy Pay apple point of sale.
I could walk through a store, hit "read" and conduct inventory instantly.
Gimme.

It's always funny when the networks do crap like this. They have an app that's hugely popular and people like me who live in Comcast's dirty grips wish I had access to. An app that people might start watching networks LIVE (I haven't watched a show live in 10 years thanks to DVR\TIVO)... then they go pulling this crap.
So the people with the TW app went from downloading torrents and watching on Tivo which provided ZERO bang for the networks' ad dollars, to watching their ads on the mobile device, and that's not good enough? Rot in hell then, lol. Because like when the Writer's Union went on strike, shows DID replace them. Sure they're not as great, but if those shows are what non-union workers can come up with in two weeks, imagine what they could do in two months, or a year...
- FU@$ the unions and let's bring TV back the way it was intended.
- FU$@ the network companies who control the cable companies so they can't offer ala carte programming knowing that nobody is going to subscribe to G4 or OWN or Hallmark... and let me go ala carte. I'll take the locals plus 10 channels at $1 per channel per month, please.
You want war, you'll get war.

see this youtube video and you will be able to determine whether CPU affects the overall speed more than GPU. This guy compared 11" MBA(with 320M graphics) and 13" sandy bridge MBP with SSD(with Intel 3000HD graphics )
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qp720fEnuRs
Of course sandy bridge MBA won't use full power sandy bridge. But you will know that MBA's performance is just overpraised by SSD, not by GPU. Once other notebooks get SSD, MBA's benefit is only limited to small form factor and weight.(maybe + high resolution)
I just don't understand people overpraising 320M on MBA, this made me to join here.
Great comparison. Definitely makes me rethink my decision between a 2011 MBP and 2011 MBA. Looking forward to his comparison between those 2, that's for sure. But the higher resolution on the MBA is a huge factor for me (coming down from my current 1600x900 13in), and the 2011 MBP's is just too low IMO.

I think this is a special case. This appears to be a "lite" version of Adobe Audition, which Adobe bought from Syntrillium Software (Syntrillium called it Cool Edit Pro).
Cool Edit Pro was built from the ground up for the Intel architecture. At that time, Intel Macs didn't exist. Since there was no pre-existing PPC compatible version, they have decided not to create one.
Don't worry too much. New Mac applications and updates for applications that already have PPC versions will probably be released as Universal Binaries for years to come.

Federal Agency Will Review a Kodak Patent Claim.
A federal agency has decided to review Eastman Kodaks patent claim against Apple and Research In Motion. The International Trade Commission said Friday it would look at a judges finding in January that Apples iPhone and RIMs BlackBerry do not violate a 2001 Kodak image-preview patent. The favorable decision revives Kodaks hopes of negotiating royalties worth $1 billion or more. The agencys six commissioners will decide by May 23 whether to alter the initial determination by its chief administrative judge or let it stand.

Well, the only airline I remember which had seat-back displays for all passengers was WestJet. I just flew United and the smaller planes didn't even have an in-house audio system, let alone video.
But this is a great idea.
...
Most airlines that fly trans-atlantic and pacific have individual displays for everybody. In coach, most of them play the same movies and series over and over, but in business/first, most of the time you can choose what to watch, and even pause/stop the movies.

As if security concerns weren't bad enough if your phone gets stolen.., If this is used to pay automatically for services and merchandise, what's to prevent a thief from running up a huge balance by using a stolen iPhone's RFID? Here in the UK we have to enter a PIN when using a credit card, and that seems to deter thieves. However, there are some places that require only a signature for some bank cards - my ex's purse was stolen in London and within the thirty minutes it took to report this to the bank 300 GBR pounds were charged to her bank card. Using a mobile phone for payment is not new - it's just a stupid idea.
Your concerns are understood. My question is: how does this differ from having your wallet or credit card stolen? Amazing that we'll secure our computers up tightly to prevent online security breaches but we'll let the sketchy-looking waiter walk away with our credit card in the restaurant.....

The guy is dead, and not smelling like roses at the moment, so take your samples and dump the carrion.
The problem is, is that your government is saying things, then going back on it. Nothing is making much sense.

At 2am ET my AT&T iPhone 3GS fell back to 1am instead of jumping forward to 3am. Now, it is saying 10:14am when it should be saying 11:14am. So, still broke. It is set to "set automatically" in preferences for date and time.

Right now in NYC you can walk in the Apple store anytime and get the Verizon iPad. ATT models are extremely hard to find.
So how is it that Verizon is preferred???... (I know why but I'll let you guess...:))
The survey is flawed if it's estimating US sales by polling only US buyers.

Before all you Apple fannies disagree with this; just remember Apple is trying to sue everyone else too.
It's all ridiculous.
When you release the kinds of game-chaining products that Apple does, I'm kind of inclined to look the other way. Why not. Apple's earned special treatment for the time being. That is, for the time being.
Might doesn't make right. But being exceedingly awesome, does.
I know it sounds unfair, but **** it. Apple's changed the entire conditions of the game.
